The study of development in Latin America has been approached from a variety of academic disciplines. International Political Economy scholars have provided a number of different approaches for studying, analyzing and understanding the political and institutional constrains that have shaped the development of Latin American countries. They have also incorporated into the analysis variables such as the influence of international organizations and the economic and class history, and its relation with one of the principal characteristics of Latin American countries: the disparity between the wealthy and the poor. Throughout this work, I intend to summarize and review four of the most representative theories that have helped shape the study†¦show more content†¦Under this particular view underdevelopment in Latin America has its roots in Colonialism, which generated a specific economic structure and a very particular dynamic (always determined by the economic interests and needs of the core region) between the core and the peripheral territories that resulted in, among other things, export dependence, rigid class hierarchy and unequal exchange opportunities. After the colonized countries became independent, the relationships they had undertaken did not change. The elite that were now in charge followed an agenda that maintained these relationships and favored special interests that not only did not help to end the dependency to the core, but in many cases allowed for the rise of authoritarian governments. Dependency Theory is a critique, and an alternative to free market economists and modernization theories. It attempts to explain underdevelopment by examining the unequal interactions between core and periphery nations and by arguing that underdeveloped countries must reduce their connections with the metropolis and minimize external pressures in order to achieve a developed status. It allows people to be able to confide in you and to rely on you. When you lose someone’s trust it’s extremely difficult to regain it and ultimately can lead to the destruction of a relationship. Trust is the foundation that keeps your friendship stable. If you build upon that foundation with lies then your friendship is unstable. When those lies begin to birth themselves your friendship crumbles like a bran muffin. It’s hard enough for people to open themselves up to the possibility of emotional distress by trusting an individual. It’s even worse when the person comes to the realization that their friendship or relationship is a sham and was based around deceit and deception. When you lose an individual’s respect you can never gain it back from that person no matter the circumstance. The movie was OK to me until I started seeing the car fix itself after I seen the group of boys vandalize the car,that’s when I begin to get freaked out because in the next picture it showed the car fixing itself, then going after the guys who vandalized it and murder them. Now when your around the age of twelve or thirteen to see a car kill someone and take over someone minds freaked me out, because as a young man I was so into cars. I thought if I loved a car that much it could possibly happen to me. When I say this movie gave me crazy feeling as if someone was standing over me when watching that movie. That’s when I found out who Stephan King was and how explicit and realistic his content was in his movies. That took a lot of stress away from me at that time of my life. Then I seen that 18 wheeler with that green face for some reason that faced scared the living cells out of my body when the engine revved up I could feel the hairs standing up on my arms . I just had that feeling that something scary was about to happen. I felt my stomach tightening up and my palms where getting itchy. It was funny to see the machines in the begin kick out the cigarettes, and change and the man picking them up like its his lucky day, but when the diesel went into the man eyes that’s when I was reaching my level of getting ready to cut it off from being so freaked out. The scene when the electrical knife cut the women and started coming after her went to my head; I had just been cut by on my wrist about a month previous to me watching that movie. Stress is incorporated with these life changing choices all because of taking in the responsibility of having a child too early. After having a child, financial obligations become harder to meet. Dropouts may try to find jobs to support their child. This becomes a difficult situation due to the fact the dropout missed out on crucial learning experiences. It is reported that â€Å"dropouts earned slightly under $13,000 in average† (Urich). Students have their whole life ahead of them to find love, have children and work. The school systems are set up so that for the first eighteen years of people’s lives they are able to learn and mature for the future. In the economy today, bosses tend to look for someone with more education. If schools have the capability to change one factor in a teenager’s life such as having safe sex, one student may be able to have a more rewarding life. Schools can enhance their drug and alcohol policies so that students are more likely to complete high school. In a recent study, researchers found that a popular reason for high school students dropping out was that they â€Å"had a drug problem† (Schwartz). Addiction to drugs and alcohol abuser has to pay for the product somewhat. Students may world a lot to feed their cravings for the illegal substance. Ultimately, working causes lots of unneeded stress. But there are some students who are unable to work for one reason or another. There students may have to result to stealing to maintain their ongoing drug addiction. In this case, security becomes an issue that schools should deal with. According to the same poll, dropouts â€Å"didn’t feel safe† (Schwartz). As students are growing up, it is important to remember that they are maturing. Likewise, teenagers are still immature when it comes to some views. The feeling of safety is important to students. Another poll found that â€Å"School environments are very influential in the lives of youth. Experiencing a feeling of safety and security in school lowers the risk of an adolescent engaging in violence† (Smith 2). Considering their information, people can see that the way schools run their schools make a difference on the students’ feeling of security. The safe feeling is important to insure students stay in school. Drugs and alcohol are two easy ways that can eliminate the safe feeling especially when the substances lead to violence. Schools would be able to eliminate many of dropouts by threating punishment upon all drug and alcohol users. It is also crucial for these schools to enforce the harsher policies being set. By making this step against illegal substances, schools will set a standard for all disrupting actions in the way of completing high school. Implementing a more relatable curriculum to high school student is a measure that needs to be taken in order to keep students from quitting school. A high school student tell a reporter that â€Å"I am never going back to that gutter of a school,† referring to his unwillingness to return to school (Lagto). His story dealt with the teachers simply not caring. Students simply get bored of their teachers and schools and decide to cut class. Attendance soon becomes a major problem. It is reported that â€Å"One-third [of dropouts] cut class at least 10 times† Schwartz). If schools applied interesting topics to their teachings, attendance would increase, giving the dropout rate a decrease. Not only would attendance increase, but students would be more willing to do better work. The student also goes on to say, â€Å"Most of the teachers didn’t teach anything.
